Event Focus – Understanding and Managing the Cost of Quality in Construction

In the construction industry, quality is essential, not only for delivering projects that meet client expectations, but also for maintaining efficiency, reducing waste, and building long-term trust.

The Cost of Quality (CoQ) is often hidden, yet it represents a major source of waste, inefficiency, and risk in construction. From rework and overprocessing to delays and customer dissatisfaction, quality issues silently erode project value and trust.

This session will go beyond theory to offer real-world strategies for:

  • Understanding the scope of CoQ in construction
  • Recognising where quality issues arise across the project lifecycle
  • Identifying root causes of failure in design, delivery, and handover
  • Sharing practical examples and lessons learned from across the industry

You will hear from respected voices in construction and quality management, including:

  • Dr. Olivia McDermott, University of Galway
“Quantifying the Cost of Quality in Construction” – uncovering hidden waste and enabling better decisions through awareness and data
  • Brian Dillon, Head of Quality at SISK
Case Study: From Compliance to Performance: Embedding Quality through Lean Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
  • LCi Executive Update
Insights on how LCi is supporting sector-wide quality improvement and Lean integration

These session is designed to foster collaborative learning, peer-to-peer exchange, and practical problem-solving within the LCi network.
